The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
