O Descendants of Israel! Remember the favour of Mine, which I bestowed upon you and gave you superiority over others of your time. (by sending the Noble Messengers to your nation) 47 And guard yourselves against the Day when no one shall avail anyone anything; nor shall intercession be accepted from anyone; nor shall anyone be acquitted for any (amount of) ransom; nor shall the guilty ones be helped from any quarter. 48 And when We delivered you from the folk of Pharaoh who were visiting you with evil chastisement, slaughtering your sons, and sparing your women; and in that was a grievous trial from your Lord. 49 and when We divided the sea for you and saved you and drowned Pharaoh's people, while you looked on. 50 and when We appointed for Moses forty nights [on Mount Sinai,] and in his absence you took to worshipping the [golden] calf, and thus became evildoers: 51 Then We pardoned you after that so that you might give thanks. 52 And when We gave unto Moses the Scripture and the criterion (of right and wrong), that ye might be led aright. 53 And remember Moses said to his people: "O my people! Ye have indeed wronged yourselves by your worship of the calf: So turn (in repentance) to your Maker, and slay yourselves (the wrong-doers); that will be better for you in the sight of your Maker." Then He turned towards you (in forgiveness): For He is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful. 54 And when you said: O Musa! we will not believe in you until we see Allah manifestly, so the punishment overtook you while you looked on. 55 Then We brought you back to life in the hope that you might appreciate Our favors. 56 And We overshadowed you with Clouds and We sent down unto you the Manna and the quails, saying: eat of the clean things, wherewith We have provided you. And they wronged Us not, but themselves they were wont to wrong. 57 (Children of Israel, recall My favors) when We told you, "Enter this city, enjoy eating whatever you want therein, prostrate yourselves and ask forgiveness when passing through the gate, and We shall forgive your sins, and add to the rewards of the righteous ones". 58 But those who were unjust changed it for a saying other than that which had been spoken to them, so We sent upon those who were unjust a pestilence from heaven, because they transgressed. 59
