And certainly We overtook Firon's people with droughts and diminution of fruits that they may be mindful. 130 Yet when good came their way they said: "It is our due;" but when misfortune befell them they put the omen down to Moses and those who were with him. But surely the omen was with God, yet most of them did not understand. 131 They said: "Whatsoever the sign you have brought to deceive us, we shall not believe in you." 132 Then We afflicted them with a great flood and locusts, and the lice, and the frogs, and the blood. All these were distinct signs and yet they remained haughty. They were a wicked people. 133 And when the plague smote them, they said: 'Moses, pray to your Lord for us invoking the promise He has made with you. If you lift the plague from us, we will believe in you and let the Children of Israel go with you' 134 But every time We removed the penalty from them according to a fixed term which they had to fulfil,- Behold! they broke their word! 135 Therefore We took retribution from them; therefore We drowned them in the sea: because they denied Our revelations and were heedless of them. 136 And We bequeathed upon the people that were abased all the east and the west of the land We had blessed; and perfectly was fulfilled the most fair word of thy Lord upon the Children of Israel, for that they endured patiently; and We destroyed utterly the works of Pharaoh and his people, and what they had been building. 137 And We brought the Children of Israel across the sea, and they came unto a people who were given up to idols which they had. They said: O Moses! Make for us a god even as they have gods. He said: Lo! ye are a folk who know not. 138 What these people worship is doomed to be destroyed and their deeds are based on falsehood. 139 He said: Shall I seek for you a god other than Allah when He hath favoured you above (all) creatures? 140 And [recall, O Children of Israel], when We saved you from the people of Pharaoh, [who were] afflicting you with the worst torment - killing your sons and keeping your women alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord. 141
