The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 It could be that those who disbelieve will wish that they were Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 Never a city have We destroyed, but it had a known decree, 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 This is how We make the mocking* enter the hearts of the guilty. (* The acts of disbelief.) 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 And if We open for them a gate in the heavens, to ascend it through the day – 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15
