The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No group may advance its appointed promise nor postpone it. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?" 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption). 9 We did send messengers before thee amongst the religious sects of old: 10 No Messenger went to them whom they did not mock. 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 They will not believe in it, though they have before them the example of former peoples, 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
