The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 Often will those who disbelieve wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to feast and revel, beguiled by hope; they will come to know soon. 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And they said, “O you upon whom the Qur’an has been sent, you are indeed insane.” 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 We sent messengers before you to the previous peoples, 10 And whenever a Messenger came to them, they never failed to mock him. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 Yet even had We opened to them a gateway to heaven and they had ascended, on and on, up to it, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
