Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 And created the jinn before him, from smokeless fire. 27 When your Lord said to the angels: 'See, I am creating a mortal from clay of molded mud. 28 Then when I have formed him and breathed into him of My Spirit fall down unto him prostrate. 29 All the angels prostrated themselves, 30 except Iblis; he refused to join those who prostrated. 31 "How is it, O Iblis," said (the Lord), "you did not join those who bowed in homage?" 32 He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud." 33 He said: Then go thou forth from hence, for lo! thou art outcast. 34 Upon thee shall rest the curse, till the Day of Doom.' 35 Satan said, "O my Lord! Grant me respite till the Day of Resurrection." 36 "You are among the reprieved," (said the Lord), 37 unto the day of a known time.' 38 Iblis said: "My Lord! In the manner You led me to error, I will make things on earth seem attractive to them and lead all of them to error, 39 except those of Your servants whom You have singled out for Yourself." 40 (Allah) said: "This (way of My sincere servants) is indeed a way that leads straight to Me. 41 Verily as for My bondmen, no authority shalt thou have over them, except the erring one who follow thee. 42 Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 To it are seven gates: for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned. 44
