We created man out of dry clay, from moulded mud, 26 and the jinn before (the human being) of smokeless fire. 27 And (remember) when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am creating a mortal out of potter's clay of black mud altered, 28 When it is properly shaped and I have blown My Spirit into it, you should then bow down in prostration". 29 So the angels made obeisance, all of them together, 30 except Iblis who refused to join with the others in prostration. 31 Said He: "O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 He said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away: 34 And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment. 35 "O my Lord," said he, "give me respite till the day the dead are raised." 36 He said: Then lo! thou art of those reprieved 37 “Till the Day of a well-known time.” 38 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,- 39 except the devoted amongst Your worshippers. 40 Allah said: "Here is the path that leads straight to Me. 41 and you have no authority over My servants except the erring ones who follow you. 42 being perverse; Gehenna shall be their promised land all together. 43 it has seven gates: and each gate has a portion of them allotted to it. 44
