And when the envoys came to the family of Lot, 61 he said: "Surely you are an unknown folk." 62 They said: "Yea, we have come to thee to accomplish that of which they doubt. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 so leave with your family some time in the latter part of the night, and walk behind them. Let none of you look back. Go where you are commanded." 65 We issued this command to him, for they were going to be destroyed in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. (* To the house of Prophet Lut.) 67 He said: "These are my guests, so do not disgrace me. 68 "And do not disgrace me. Have some fear of God." 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 [Lout (Lot)] said: "These (the girls of the nation) are my daughters (to marry lawfully), if you must act (so)." 71 Verily, by your life (O Muhammad SAW), in their wild intoxication, they were wandering blindly. 72 Then the shout took hold of them at the sunrise. 73 We turned the town upside down and rained upon them stones of clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 for, behold, those [towns] stood by a road that still exists. 76 Surely, in that there is a sign for those who believe. 77 And the dwellers of the thicket also were most surely unjust. 78 So We took vengeance on them. Both are still there on the highway, plain for all to see. 79
