AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 They said: Nay, we have come to you with that about which they disputed. 63 "And we have brought to you the truth (the news of the destruction of your nation) and certainly, we tell the truth. 64 So set out with your family during a portion of the night and follow behind them and let not anyone among you look back and continue on to where you are commanded." 65 And We made known to him this decree that the wrongdoers were to be utterly cut off in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. (* To the house of Prophet Lut.) 67 Said Lot: "These are my guests; do not put me to shame, 68 "And do not disgrace me. Have some fear of God." 69 They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?" 70 He said: These are my daughters, if you will do (aught). 71 By your life, they wandered on in their wild intoxication 72 and the Cry seized them at the sunrise, 73 Thus did We turn it upside down, and rained down upon them stones of what had been decreed. 74 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the prudent ones. 75 for, behold, those [towns] stood by a road that still exists. 76 Surely! Therein is indeed a sign for the believers. 77 Since the People of the Forest were unjust, 78 We afflicted them with punishment. Both people had clear (divine) authority among them. 79
