Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
