AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 He said: "You are people I do not know." 62 They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. 63 “And we have brought to you a true command, and indeed we are truthful.” 64 So set out thou with thy house hold in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs, and let not one of you look back, and pass whither ye are commanded. 65 We informed him that the unbelievers would be utterly destroyed. 66 And the people of the city came [unto Lot,] rejoicing at the glad tiding. 67 rushed towards the house of Lot. Lot said to them, "These are my guests. Do not disgrace me. 68 And fear Allah, and humiliate me not. 69 They said, “Had we not forbidden you from meddling in the affairs of anyone?” 70 [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]." 71 By your life O dear Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) – they are indeed straying in their intoxication. 72 Therefore the scream overcame them at sunrise. 73 We turned the town upside down and rained upon them stones of clay. 74 Surely, in that there are signs for those who contemplate. 75 And indeed, those cities are [situated] on an established road. 76 Verily there is a Sign in this for the believers. 77 The dwellers of the Thicket were harmdoers. 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
