And the dwellers of Al Hijr also belied the Messengers. 80 We sent them Our Signs, but they persisted in turning away from them. 81 They hewed their dwellings out of the mountains in safety. 82 and so the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at early morn, 83 and of no avail to them was all [the power] that they had acquired. 84 And We have not created the heaven and the earth and that which is in between them save with a purpose. And verily the Hour is surely coming; so overlook thou with a seemly overlooking, 85 Indeed your Lord only is the Great Creator, the All Knowing. 86 We have given you the seven oft-recited verses and the great Quran. 87 Strain not thine eyes. (Wistfully) at what We have bestowed on certain classes of them, nor grieve over them: but lower thy wing (in gentleness) to the believers. 88 And say: Lo! I, even I, am a plain warner, 89 Just as We had revealed [scriptures] to the separators 90 And severed their Scripture into fragments. 91 By thy Lord, We will question them all. 92 about what they did. 93 Therefore expound openly what thou art commanded, and turn away from those who join false gods with Allah. 94 Surely We suffice to deal with those who scoff at you, 95 Those who adopt, with Allah, another god: but soon will they come to know. 96 We certainly know that you feel sad about what they say against you. 97 But celebrate the praises of thy Lord, and be of those who prostrate themselves in adoration. 98 And keep worshipping your Lord, till death* comes to you. (* The certainty.) 99
