The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 Truly he succeeds that purifies it, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
