۞ And strike for them a similitude: two men. To one of them We assigned two gardens of vines, and surrounded them with palm-trees, and between them We set a sown field; 32 each of the two gardens yielded its produce and failed naught in any wise; and We caused to gush amidst them a river. 33 (Abundant) was the produce this man had: he said to his companion, in the course of a mutual argument: "more wealth have I than you, and more honour and power in (my following of) men." 34 And he went into his garden, while he (thus) wronged himself. He said: I think not that all this will ever perish. 35 Nor can I think that the Hour (of Doom) will come, And even if I am brought back to my Lord, I will surely find a better place there than this." 36 Disputing with him, his companion said: "Do you disbelieve in Him who created you from dust, then a drop of semen, then formed you into a man? 37 But he is Allah, my Lord; and with my Lord I associate not anyone. 38 “And why was it not that you would have said when you entered your garden, ‘Whatever Allah wills – we do not have any strength except with the help of Allah’ – if you had observed me lesser than you in wealth and children.”? 39 Then maybe my Lord will give me what is better than your garden, and send on it a thunderbolt from heaven so that it shall become even ground without plant, 40 or in the morning the water of it will be sunk into the earth, so that thou wilt not be able to seek it out.' 41 So his fruits (and enjoyment) were encompassed (with ruin), and he remained twisting and turning his hands over what he had spent on his property, which had (now) tumbled to pieces to its very foundations, and he could only say, "Woe is me! Would I had never ascribed partners to my Lord and Cherisher!" 42 And he had no group of men to help him against Allah, nor could he defend or save himself. 43 There the authority is [completely] for Allah, the Truth. He is best in reward and best in outcome. 44
