They ask you about Dhu'l-Qarnain. 83 Verily, We established him in the earth, and We gave him the means of everything. 84 One (such) way he followed, 85 Until when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he perceived it setting in a miry spring, and he found beside it a nation. We said: Zul Qarnian! either chastise them or take in respect of them the way of kindness. 86 He said: As for him who doeth wrong, we shall punish him, and then he will be brought back unto his Lord, Who will punish him with awful punishment! 87 But as for one who believes and does righteousness, he will have a reward of Paradise, and we will speak to him from our command with ease." 88 Then he followed (another) course. 89 to the East where he found the sun rising upon a people whom We had exposed to its rays. 90 So (it was)! And We knew all about him (Dhul-Qarnain). 91 He travelled 92 until, when he reached between the two barriers, he found this side of them a people scarcely able to understand speech. 93 They said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?" 94 He answered: "Whatever my Lord has granted me is good enough. But help me with your labour and I will erect a rampart between you and them. 95 Bring me sheets of iron" - until, when he had leveled [them] between the two mountain walls, he said, "Blow [with bellows]," until when he had made it [like] fire, he said, "Bring me, that I may pour over it molten copper." 96 Thereafter they could neither scale it, nor could they pierce it. 97 He said: This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord cometh to pass, He will lay it low, for the promise of my Lord is true. 98 ۞ On that day, We will let them surge on one another, and the Horn shall be blown, and We will gather them all together. 99 And We shall bring hell in front of the disbelievers. 100 Unto those whose eyes had been under a covering from My remembrance, nor had they been able to hear. 101
