Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
KAF HA YA 'AIN SAD. 1 This is an account of your Lord's mercy bestowed upon His servant Zachariah, 2 When he called out his Lord (Allah) a call in secret, 3 he prayed: "O my Sustainer! Feeble have become my bones, and my head glistens with grey hair. But never yet, O my Lord, has my prayer unto Thee remained unanswered. 4 "And Verily! I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir, 5 “He being my successor and the heir of the Descendants of Yaqub (Jacob); and my Lord, make him a cherished* one.” (* Make him a Prophet among the Descendants of Israel.) 6 (He was told): "Zechariah, We bring you the good news of the birth of a son whose name shall be Yahya (John), one whose namesake We never created before." 7 He said, 'O my Lord, how shall I have a son, seeing my wife is barren, and I have attained to the declining of old age?' 8 He said: "So (it will be) thy Lord saith, 'that is easy for Me: I did indeed create thee before, when thou hadst been nothing!'" 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 So he went forth to his people from his place of worship, then he made known to them that they should glorify (Allah) morning and evening. 11 (We said): 'O John, hold fast to the Book', and We bestowed on him judgment while yet a child 12 And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah 13 honoring his parents, being neither arrogant nor rebellious. 14 Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
