And mention in the Book [the story of] Abraham. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet. 41 Remember, when he said to his father: "O my father, why do you worship that which can neither hear nor see nor even profit you the least? 42 Father, I have received the knowledge which has not been given to you. Follow me; I shall guide you to the right path. 43 O my father, do not worship Satan. Indeed Satan has ever been, to the Most Merciful, disobedient. 44 Father, I fear that some chastisement from the All-merciful will smite thee, so that thou becomest a friend to Satan. 45 He (the father) said: "Do you reject my gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)? If you stop not (this), I will indeed stone you. So get away from me safely before I punish you." 46 [Abraham] said, "Peace will be upon you. I will ask forgiveness for you of my Lord. Indeed, He is ever gracious to me. 47 But I shall withdraw from you all and from whatever you invoke instead of God, and shall invoke my Sustainer [alone]: it may well be that my prayer [for thee] will not remain unanswered by my Sustainer." 48 When (Abraham) rejected his people and what they worshipped instead of God, We gave him Isaac and Jacob and made both of them Prophets. 49 And We gave them of Our mercy, and we made for them a reputation of high honor. 50
