To Moses we also revealed: 'Set forth with My worshipers by night and strike for them a dry path in the sea. Do not fear that you will be overtaken, neither be afraid' 77 The Pharaoh and his army chased Moses and his people but were drowned by the sea. 78 The Pharaoh had led his people astray, and did not rightly guide them. 79 O Children of Israel! We delivered you from your enemy, and We made a covenant with you on the right side of the Mount, and We sent down to you Al-Manna and quails, 80 (Saying) eat of the Taiyibat (good lawful things) wherewith We have provided you, and commit no oppression therein, lest My Anger should justly descend on you. And he on whom My Anger descends, he is indeed perished. 81 but to whosoever repents, believes and does good deeds, and is at last guided, I am Forgiving' 82 ۞ The Lord asked, "Moses, what made you attend your appointment with Me before your people?" 83 He said: "They are close behind me, and I hastened to You, Lord, that You may be pleased with me." 84 He said: Lo! We have tried thy folk in thine absence, and As-Samiri hath misled them. 85 Moses returned to his people full of wrath and grief, and said: "My people! Has your Lord not made good an excellent promise He made to you? And has a long time passed since those promises were fulfilled? Or was it to incur the wrath of your Lord that you broke your promise with me?" 86 They answered, "We did not break our promise to you of our own accord, but we had to carry loads of the people's ornaments and so we threw them [into the fire] for that was what the Samiri suggested," 87 Then he took out (of the fire) for them a statue of a calf which seemed to low. They said: "This is your ilah (god), and the ilah (god) of Musa (Moses), but [Musa (Moses)] has forgotten (his god).'" 88 Could they not see that it could not return them a word (for answer), and that it had no power either to harm them or to do them good? 89
