And Aaron had already told them before [the return of Moses], "O my people, you are only being tested by it, and indeed, your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my order." 90 They said, “We will continue to squat* before it, till Moosa returns to us.” (* Continue worshipping it.) 91 [Musa (Moses)] said: "O Harun (Aaron)! What stopped you when you saw them going astray; 92 From following me? Then have you disobeyed my order?" 93 He said: O son of my mother! Clutch not my beard nor my head! I feared lest thou shouldst say: Thou hast caused division among the Children of Israel, and hast not waited for my word. 94 Musa said: what was thy object, O Samiri? 95 He replied, "I had the skill (of carving) which they did not have. I followed some of the Messengers's (Moses) tradition, but I then ignored it. Thus, my soul prompted me (to carve a golden calf with an artificial hollow sound). 96 [Moses] said, "Then go. And indeed, it is [decreed] for you in [this] life to say, 'No contact.' And indeed, you have an appointment [in the Hereafter] you will not fail to keep. And look at your 'god' to which you remained devoted. We will surely burn it and blow it into the sea with a blast. 97 But the god of you all is the One Allah: there is no god but He: all things He comprehends in His knowledge. 98 Thus We tell you, (Muhammad), the stories of the past and We have given you the Quran. 99 If any do turn away therefrom, verily they will bear a burden on the Day of judgment; 100 therein abiding forever; how evil upon the Day of Resurrection that burden for them! 101 The Day when the Trumpet will be sounded: that Day, We shall gather the sinful, blear-eyed (with terror). 102 They shall consult together secretly: You did tarry but ten (centuries). 103 We know best what they will say, when their leader most eminent in conduct will say: "Ye tarried not longer than a day!" 104
