Recall when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourselves before Adam"; all prostrated themselves save Iblis. He refused. 116 Therefor we said: O Adam! This is an enemy unto thee and unto thy wife, so let him not drive you both out of the Garden so that thou come to toil. 117 Verily, you have (a promise from Us) that you will never be hungry therein nor naked. 118 thirst, or exposure to the hot Sun." 119 But the Shaitan made an evil suggestion to him; he said: O Adam! Shall I guide you to the tree of immortality and a kingdom which decays not? 120 And so the two ate [of the fruit] thereof: and thereupon they became conscious of their nakedness and began to cover themselves with pieced-together leaves from the garden. And [thus] did Adam disobey his Sustainer, and thus did he fall into grievous error. 121 Then his Lord chose him, and turned to him with forgiveness, and gave him guidance. 122 Said He, 'Get you down, both of you together, out of it, each of you an enemy to each; but if there comes to you from Me guidance, then whosoever follows My guidance shall not go astray, neither shall he be unprosperous; 123 And whoever turns away from My reminder, his shall be a straitened life, and We will raise him on the day of resurrection, blind. 124 He will say, “O my Lord, why have You raised me blind, whereas I was sighted?” 125 He will say: Even so, Our communications came to you but you neglected them; even thus shall you be forsaken this day. 126 And thus do We recompense him who is extravagant and does not believe in the communications of his Lord, and certainly the chastisement of the hereafter is severer and more lasting 127 Is it not a warning for them to see how many generations living before them We destroyed and how they are now walking in their ruins? In this there is the evidence (of the Truth) for the people of reason. 128
