۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshippers of them. 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the truth or are you jesting?" 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said, 'O fire, be coolness and safety for Abraham!' 69 They had devised an evil plan (against Abraham), but We turned it into failure." 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
