۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 "And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs".. 57 So he smashed them up to pieces with the exception of the biggest, so that they may turn to it. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 They said, 'We heard a young man making mention of them, and he was called Abraham.' 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 Thereupon they realized their own foolishness and said, "We ourselves are wrong-doers". 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing." 68 We said, 'O fire, be coolness and safety for Abraham!' 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people. 74 We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
