۞ And indeed We bestowed aforetime on Ibrahim (Abraham) his (portion of) guidance, and We were Well-Acquainted with him (as to his Belief in the Oneness of Allah, etc.). 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 They said, 'So, art thou the man who did this unto our gods, Abraham?' 62 He answered: "Rather it was this supreme one who has done it. So ask them, if they can speak." 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
