۞ And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshippers of them. 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the truth or are you jesting?" 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and that you serve apart from God! Do you not understand?' 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 And (as for) Lut, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town which wrought abominations; surely they were an evil people, transgressors; 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
