۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 “And, by oath of Allah, I shall seek to harm your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs.” 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 "No," he said. "It was done by that chief of theirs. Ask him in case they can speak." 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 We said, 'O fire, be coolness and safety for Abraham!' 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
