And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 If you obey a mortal like yourselves, you shall be lost. 34 Does he promise you that when you are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, you will be brought forth to life? 35 ۞ "Far, very far is that which ye are promised! 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be raised up. 37 He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allah, and we will not believe him." 38 The Messenger prayed, "Lord, help me; they have called me a liar". 39 He answered: "A short while, and they shall be repenting." 40 The blast justly struck them and We reduced them to rubble. Away with such wicked people! 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe. 44 We then sent Moosa and his brother Haroon, with Our signs and a clear proof. 45 To Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, but they behaved insolently and they were people self-exalting (by disobeying their Lord, and exalting themselves over and above the Messenger of Allah). 46 They said, "Are we to believe in two human beings like ourselves, while their people are subject to us?" 47 Thus, they gave the lie to those two, and earned (thereby) their place among the doomed: 48 And We verily gave Moses the Scripture, that haply they might go aright. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother as a Sign: We gave them both shelter on high ground, affording rest and security and furnished with springs. 50
