Alshu'araa' 2 of 11
(Recount to them about the time) when Your Lord called Moses: "Go to the wrong-doing people, 10 The folk of Pharaoh. Will they not ward off (evil)? 11 He said: O my Lord! surely I fear that they will reject me; 12 And I shall be embarrassed, and my tongue will not speak plainly, therefor send for Aaron (to help me). 13 And they have a crime against me, so I fear that they shall slay me. 14 Allah said: "By no means! proceed then, both of you, with Our Signs; We are with you, and will listen (to your call). 15 "So go forth, both of you, to Pharaoh, and say: 'We have been sent by the Lord and Cherisher of the worlds; 16 Send with us the Children of Isra'il? 17 Pharaoh said: "Did we not bring you up among us when you were a child? 18 "And thou didst a deed of thine which (thou knowest) thou didst, and thou art an ungrateful (wretch)!" 19 Said he, 'Indeed I did it then, being one of those that stray; 20 "So I fled from you (all) when I feared you; but my Lord has (since) invested me with judgment (and wisdom) and appointed me as one of the messengers. 21 And this is the favor with which you oblige me: You have made the Israelites your slaves. 22 Pharaoh said: "And who is this Lord of the Universe?" 23 [Moses] said, "The Lord of the heavens and earth and that between them, if you should be convinced." 24 Said [Pharaoh] unto those around him: "Did you hear [what he said]?" 25 Moses said: "(He is) Your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore." 26 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Verily, your Messenger who has been sent to you is a madman!" 27 (Moses) said: "The Lord of the East and the Lord of the West and all that lies between them, if you have sense." 28 Pharaoh said, "If you take any deity other than myself, I will throw you into prison," 29 He said: What! even if I bring to you something manifest? 30 [Pharaoh] said, "Then bring it, if you should be of the truthful." 31 So Moses threw down his staff and suddenly it appeared as a serpent, plainly visible. 32 And he drew forth his hand, and lo! it was white unto the beholders. 33
