'This', said he (Pharaoh) to his Council, 'is a cunning sorcerer 34 Who would drive you out of your land by his magic. Now what counsel ye? 35 They answered: "Let him and his brother wait a while, and send unto all cities heralds 36 to mobilise all skilled magicians." 37 So the magicians were assembled at a set time on a day made known. 38 and the people were asked: 'Will you gather 39 so that we might follow [in the footsteps of] the sorcerers if it is they who prevail?" 40 So when the magicians came, they said to Firaun, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 41 He said: Yes, and surely you will then be of those who are made near. 42 Moses said unto them: Throw what ye are going to throw! 43 So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant." 44 Then Musa cast down his staff and lo! it swallowed up the lies they told. 45 Then did the sorcerers fall down, prostrate in adoration, 46 They said, “We have accepted faith in the Lord Of The Creation.” 47 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 Said he: You believe in him before I give you permission; most surely he is the chief of you who taught you the magic, so you shall know: certainly I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and certainly I will crucify you all. 49 They said: no harm! verily unto our Lord we are to return. 50 “We hope that our Lord will forgive us our mistakes, as we are the first to believe.” 51
