And recite to them the tiding of Abraham 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He said: Do they hear you when you call? 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 “By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error.” 97 “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
