Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What do you worship' 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 who created me; and He guides me, 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 O Lord, give me wisdom and admit me among the righteous, 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 Besides Allah? Can they help you or yet help themselves? 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor a true friend; 101 Were there for us a return, we would be of the believers. 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
