And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 My Lord, give me judgment, and join me with the righteous. 83 Make my words come true in the future. 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and the army of satan will all be thrown headlong into hell. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
