And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 In this there is evidence (of the truth), but many of them do not have any faith. 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
