The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 gardens, and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
