(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 gardens, and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
