(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists). 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
