(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
