Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 In gardens and springs. 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
