Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 "Be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me, 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
