The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
