The people of Lut rejected the messengers. 160 when their brother Lot said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 161 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 162 so fear you God, and obey you me. 163 I ask of you no recompense for this; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 164 What, do you come to the males of the world, 165 instead of your wives, whom your Lord has created specially for you? You are a transgressing people." 166 They said: "If you do not desist, O Lot, you will be expelled (from the city)." 167 He said: "I am, indeed, of those who disapprove with severe anger and fury your (this evil) action (of sodomy). 168 My Lord, deliver me and my family from their wicked deeds." 169 So We saved him and all his people, 170 save an old woman among those that tarried; 171 then We destroyed the others. 172 We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): and evil was the shower on those who were admonished (but heeded not)! 173 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 174 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 175
