The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ AlifLaamMeem. 1 The Romans have been defeated (by the Persians) 2 In the nearer land, and they, after their defeat will be victorious 3 in a few years. To God belongs the Command before and after, and on that day the believers shall rejoice 4 In the help of God. He helps whom He will; He is all-mighty, ever-merciful. 5 The promise of Allah; Allah does not renege on His promise, but most people do not know. 6 They know an outward part of the present life, but of the Hereafter they are heedless. 7 Do they not contemplate within themselves? Allah has not created the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and for a specified term. And indeed, many of the people, in [the matter of] the meeting with their Lord, are disbelievers. 8 Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls. 9 Then evil was the consequence to those who dealt in evil, because they denied the revelations of Allah and made a mock of them. 10
