The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. 1 The Romans have been conquered 2 in a nearby land. They will reverse their defeat with a victory 3 Within ten years - Allah's is the command in the former case and in the latter - and in that day believers will rejoice 4 at the victory granted by Allah. He grants victory to whomsoever He pleases. He is the Most Mighty, the Most Compassionate. 5 (This is) Allah's promise! Allah will not fail His promise, but most people do not know. 6 They know only the visible worldly life; and are totally neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Have they not thought that God has not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them but for a genuine purpose to exist for an appointed term? Many people do not believe in their meeting with their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the land to see how terrible was the end of the people who lived before them. The people who lived before them were stronger than them in might, in tilling, and in developing the earth. Our Messengers came to them with clear miracles. God did not do an injustice to them but they wronged themselves. 9 The end of the evil-doers was terrible, for they had rejected the revelations of God and mocked them. 10
