۞ (Then will the command be given): “Muster all the wrong-doers and their spouses and the deities whom they used to serve 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 'Why do you not help one another? 25 Nay, but this day they make full submission. 26 And some of them inclined towards others, mutually questioning. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 But now our Lord's word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. 31 And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." 32 So verily on that Day they all in the torment will be sharers. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 and be rewarded only according to your deeds." 39 Save single-minded slaves of Allah; 40 For them is the sustenance known to Us. 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 sitting face to face upon couches, 44 Cups of wine will be presented to them in rounds, from a spring flowing in front of them. 45 white and delicious to those who drink it, 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 One of them will say: “I had a companion in the world 51 Who used to say: 'Are you one of those who can testify to the truth? 52 [that] after we have died and become mere dust and bones we shall, forsooth, be brought to judgment?"' 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 What, do we then not die 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 This is indeed the mighty triumph, 60 For the like of this then let the workers work. 61 Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 for, behold, they found their forebears on a wrong way, 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 although, verily, We had sent warners unto them: 72 So behold what wise hath been the end of those who were warned. 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
