۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 These say, 'Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.' 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; 30 But now our Lord's word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 When they were told, "There is no deity but God," they turned away with disdain, 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, 38 You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” 39 Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 40 there is waiting for them a known provision; 41 Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity, 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 On thrones facing one another. 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 Theirs shall be wide-eyed maidens with bashful, restrained glances, 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 who used to say: -- Are you also one of those who confirm the Truth (of life after death)? 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 Then, are we not to die 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 It is a tree that grows in the nethermost part of Hell. 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 Then they will have on top of it a mixture of boiling water. 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 They indeed found their fathers astray, 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 Not so the chosen servants of God. 74
