۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. 23 and detain them there; they will be called to account. 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 But they, that Day, are in surrender. 26 They will turn upon one another, and question one another. 27 saying: 'You used to come to us from the right hand' 28 Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; 29 And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people. 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 we perverted you, indeed, we were perverts' 32 Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence, 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, 38 And you will be requited nothing except for what you used to do (evil deeds, sins, and Allah's disobedience which you used to do in this world); 39 Save single-minded slaves of Allah; 40 there is waiting for them a known provision; 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 seated on couches, facing one another. 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. 46 no headiness will be in it, and they will not get drunk thereon. 47 And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes, 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 Then one turned to the other in an enquiry. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 Who used to say: 'Are you one of those who can testify to the truth? 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 Are we then not to die 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 Verily, this - this indeed - is the triumph supreme!" 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is that better by way of hospitality or the Zaqqum tree, 62 Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 The fruit thereof is as though the hoods of the serpents. 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 Washing it down with boiling water. 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
