They are waiting for nothing except a single Cry, after which there will be no second Cry. 15 They say: “Our Lord, hasten to us our share (of chastisement) before the Day of Reckoning.” 16 Have patience at what they say, and remember our servant David, the man of strength: for he ever turned (to Allah). 17 It was We that made the hills declare, in unison with him, Our Praises, at eventide and at break of day, 18 and the birds, too, in their flocks, and turn again and again to celebrating Allah's glory. 19 We strengthened his kingdom, and gave him wisdom and sound judgment in speech and decision. 20 ۞ And hath the tidings of the contending parties reached thee, when they walled the apartment? 21 As they came upon David, and he shrank back in fear from them, they said: "Fear not! [We are but] two litigants. One of us has wronged the other: so judge thou between us with justice, and deviate not from what is right, and show [both of] us the way to rectitude. 22 Verily this my brother hath nine and ninety ewes while I have one ewe; and he saith: entrust it to me, and he hath prevailed upon me in speech. 23 [David] said, "He has certainly wronged you in demanding your ewe [in addition] to his ewes. And indeed, many associates oppress one another, except for those who believe and do righteous deeds - and few are they." And David became certain that We had tried him, and he asked forgiveness of his Lord and fell down bowing [in prostration] and turned in repentance [to Allah]. ۩ 24 So We forgave him that; and indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return. 25 (And it was said unto him): O David! Lo! We have set thee as a viceroy in the earth; therefor judge aright between mankind, and follow not desire that it beguile thee from the way of Allah. Lo! those who wander from the way of Allah have an awful doom, forasmuch as they forgot the Day of Reckoning. 26
