AND [thus it is:] We have not created heaven and earth and all that is between them without meaning and purpose, as is the surmise of those who are bent on denying the truth: but then, woe from the fire [of hell] unto all who are bent on denying the truth! 27 Shall We treat those who believe and do good like the mischief-makers in the earth? Or shall We make those who guard (against evil) like the wicked? 28 (It is) a Book We have revealed to you abounding in good that they may ponder over its verses, and that those endowed with understanding may be mindful. 29 And to Dawud (David) We gave Sulaiman (Solomon). How excellent (a) slave! Verily, he was ever oft-returning in repentance (to Us)! 30 And when one evening well-trained and running horses of noble breed were brought to him 31 Therefore Sulaiman said, “I cherish the love of these horses*, out of remembrance of my Lord”; he then ordered them to be raced until they vanished in a curtain out of sight. (To be used in holy war.) 32 Return them to me!' And he began to stroke their shanks and necks. 33 Indeed, We tried Solomon and placed a body (of a child) upon his throne, then he repented. 34 He said: 'Forgive me my Lord, and give me a kingdom the like of which will not befall any after me, surely, You are the Giver' 35 So, We subjected to him the wind, it blew gently to his order whithersoever he willed, 36 And We subjected to him the evil ones: every builder and diver. 37 And also others bound in fetters. 38 [We said], "This is Our gift, so grant or withhold without account." 39 And verily, he enjoyed a near access to Us, and a good final return (Paradise). 40
