God gathers up the souls of those who die, and of those who do not die, in their sleep; then He keeps back those ordained for death, and sends the others back for an appointed term. Surely there are signs in this for those who reflect. 42 Or have they taken others instead of Allah as intercessors? Say: “Will they intercede though they may have no power and though they may not even understand?” 43 Say, "Intercession belongs to God. To Him belongs the heavens and the earth and to Him you will all return." 44 When God is mentioned alone, then shudder the hearts of those who believe not in the Hereafter, but when those apart from Him are mentioned behold, they rejoice. 45 Say: "O Allah! Creator of the heavens and the earth! Knower of all that is hidden and open! it is Thou that wilt judge between Thy Servants in those matters about which they have differed." 46 If the wrongdoers possessed all that is on earth, and twice as much, they would offer it to redeem themselves from the awful suffering on the Day of Resurrection. For God will show them what they had never anticipated, 47 and the evils of their earnings will appear to them, and that which they mocked at will encompass them. 48 And when adversity touches man, he calls upon Us; then when We bestow on him a favor from Us, he says, "I have only been given it because of [my] knowledge." Rather, it is a trial, but most of them do not know. 49 People who lived before them had also said, "Our wealth has been earned by our own merits." What they had earned was of no benefit to them 50 And there befell them the evils of that which they had earned. And of these they who go wrong - anon will befall them the evils of that which they earn; nor can they frustrate. 51 Do they not know that God enhances or restricts the provision of any one He will. Surely there are signs in this for people who believe. 52
