Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the Clear Book; 2 behold, We have made it an Arabic Koran; haply you will understand; 3 And verily it is, in the Original Book before Us, indeed exalted. 4 Should We divert this Good Counsel from you because you are a people immersed in extravagance? 5 And how many a Prophet have We sent amongst the men of old. 6 But never did a prophet come at whom they did not scoff. 7 Wherefore We destroyed peoples mightier than these in prowess; and there hath gone forth the example of the ancients. 8 And if you ask them, “Who has created the heavens and the earth?”, they will surely say, “They are created by the Most Honourable, the All Knowing.” 9 Who has made the earth a cradle for you and made thereon paths for you so that, hopefully, you may find your way 10 And Who sent down water from the sky with a proper measure, so We revived a dead city with it; this is how you will be taken out. 11 And Who hath treated the pairs, all of them, and appointed for you from ships and cattle things whereon ye ride. 12 so that when you are mounted upon them you may remember the bounty of your Lord, and say: “Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to Us whereas we did not have the strength to subdue it. 13 And lo! unto our Lord we surely are returning. 14 Yet they assign to some of His slaves a share with Him (by pretending that He has children, and considering them as equals or co-partners in worship with Him). Verily, man is indeed a manifest ingrate! 15
